Boreal Water Futures is managed by a hardworking team comprised of project investigators, a steering committee, stakeholder advisory panel, and secretariat

Project Investigators

Our project investigators comprise a transdisciplinary team (science, engineering, business, social science) and together with our collaborators will be organized into seven theme-based teams:

A1: Climate change and extreme weather
A2: Wildfire regimes

B1: Forest hydrology and vegetation change
B2: Wetland ecohydrological feedbacks
B3: Changing boreal soils

C1: Mine water management
C2: Wildland-society interface

These research teams will be responsible for data collection, analysis and results communication for their assigned theme.

Steering Committee

This committee provides overall organizational direction and financial accountability of the Boreal Wildland-Society-Water Nexus project, as well as management of routine business. The Steering Committee will also facilitate the interactions and linkages amongst researchers, our partner institutions, stakeholders and users, and other GWF programs.

The Steering Committee will consist of the PI (Waddington), our two Co-PIs (Flannigan, Petrone), and two additional rotating members from the investigators and stakeholder advisory panel. The Steering Committee will make financial decisions and provide broad direction and liaise with the GWF central secretariat.

Stakeholder Advisory Panel

The stakeholder advisory panel will provide advice from our stakeholders and users to ensure that the latest information is available to the Boreal Wildland-Society-Water Nexus project so that it is proceeding effectively. The Stakeholder Advisory Panel reports to the Steering Committee and will meet once per year. The membership will be made up of users and stakeholders who collaborated in the development of the Boreal Wildland-Society-Water Nexus project.

Secretariat

An Information, Financial and Knowledge Mobilization Manager will be appointed to form a Secretariat for the program and to ensure the smooth flow of information between researchers and stakeholders. This manager will also be responsible for program communications, liaise with data and technical core personnel, the knowledge mobilization team, communications team and ensure the general smooth operation of the program. The manager will also assist in financial management through preparation of budgets and dispensing of funds to investigating institutions and ensuring financial operation of the program.

Meetings

We will organize twice yearly meetings. The first will be at the GWF annual general meeting to present program outcomes to the broader GWF community and to demonstrate program progress. A second meeting will be held annually to coordinate the research programs, coordinate shared resources, identify opportunities and challenges, and to ensure that deliverables outlined are on track to completion.
